Because we believe so much in the quality of our workmanship and our product, we believe a guarantee is important.
You are covered for 7 years warranty for any building defects in your home. Only a licenced builder can give you this guarantee for your whole home.
Some people are unsure whether environmental homes are just as good as traditional homes.... our guarantee ensures they are. We are licensed builders which means that we're one of a few Master Builders in Australia to be building straw bale, sustainable homes.
We asked ourselves, what guarantee would we want if we were building our own home. This is it.
What to look out for when choosing straw bale contractors.
Choose a contractor who has a full building licence (part licences means they can only do part of the work. Look under the licence class and conditions>). If you get contractor with limitations, it means they can only do part of the work up to $x. Generally it's only builders who can quote a whole job as they are able to build the whole home.
Many people have been caught out because they are promised by designers, renderers or straw bale contractors that their home will cost $x. When in real life it costs them much more. It's because these contractors don't cost a complete job that they can't give accurate prices. Generally they even find it difficult to quote the work that they can actually do.
To protect yourself -
Get a written quote specifying what work they will do. Ensure they are properly licenced, that their licence number is in their name, they are insured (contract insurance and public liability), must provide you with a Home Warranty Insurance Certificate for their work and have an ABN (get proof of these). Then ensure you sign a Building Contract from a building association formalising your agreement. This will help protect you from 'dodgy building contractors' and for contractors over charging you.
Good contractors will quote the job if they know their trade enough and have experience. If they can't, that's a sign they cannot keep to their price.
